Sky Internet Down

Sky Internet Down- Sky offers more than 300 channels and three streaming services - Discovery+, Netflix, and Sky Go. Its services include satellite television, broadband internet, and home phone service. Sky has been offering low-priced broadband packages, and the top offer is near-gigabit download speeds with full fibre for £42 a month.

The Sky website lists the standard price for the Full Fibre 500 broadband (£46 a month), which is how much you pay after the minimum term. Sky was planning to stop a series of cheap full-fibre broadband plans in the days ahead. Three deals are expected to end on May 28, which means new customers would have to pay extra.

Sky Internet was down in May 2025, affecting thousands of users. There were no issues with Sky Broadband & Talk; the users faced problems accessing the internet, the Sky Q boxes kept shutting down, and there was no signal on the televisions. The users reported issues with streaming TV and Sky TV apps.

Is Sky Internet Down?

Sky TV was down on May 16, 2025, for thousands of customers after an outage left tens of thousands unable to watch shows. People began reporting issues with the satellite television service just before 9 pm, according to outage tracker Downdetector. Initially, over 26,000 users reported issues, and within an hour and a half, nearly 30,000 people were experiencing problems with Sky.

Most Sky TV users said they were struggling to watch live shows as the service kept crashing, which was bad news for anyone tuning in to the Eurovision semi-finals. Sky has since issued a fix for the affected areas, and connections seem to be back up and running.

The provider acknowledged the broadband issues in the Barnsley area, but Cornwall Live also reported that multiple customers in the area had experienced Sky connection problems.

Is Sky Internet Down in My Area?

To check the Sky internet outage status in your area -

  • Visit the Sky website and check the Service Status page.

  • You can monitor service issues online or via the My Sky app. To find out if there are any problems in your area, either use the e checker or sign in to the My Sky app.

  • One can also check how many outages have been reported on DownDetector.

Why Is Sky Internet Down?

There are multiple causes of connection errors and internet outages. One common problem with Sky Q connectivity is that if it is not connecting to the Wi-Fi, you may have recently changed settings or added a new device to the network.

  • Check the Wi-Fi connection and confirm whether other devices are connecting to it.

  • Restart your Sky Q box. To power cycle the box, turn it off and unplug it for 10 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on. Check whether it reconnects to your Wi-Fi.

  • You must reconnect to Wi-Fi. If it is still not working, go to the Sky Q settings, select "Network," and then reconnect to Wi-Fi by entering the correct password.

  • If the Sky Q box is not connecting to the router, it may be experiencing issues, such as a fault in the cable or network settings.

  • Check the connections and ensure the Ethernet cable is securely plugged into both your Sky Q box and the router.

  • Unplug the router for 10 seconds and then plug it back in to restart. It can resolve connection issues.

  • Check the network settings. Go to your Sky Q settings and ensure the network settings are correctly configured. If the box still cannot connect, you may need to reset the network settings.

  • If Sky Q keeps dropping internet and intermittently losing connection, there could be issues with the wifi signal, network settings, or interference.

  • To get a better, uninterrupted signal, one should move the router to a more central location in the home.

  • To get a better signal, reduce interference from devices like microwaves and cordless phones, which can disrupt your Wi-Fi signal. Make sure your Sky Q box is positioned away from such devices.

  • Check your router or Sky Q box, update the settings, and check for any available software updates. Updates can sometimes resolve these issues.

  • Will Sky compensate me for the outage?

  • Your Sky Broadband might be down due to your equipment, so make sure everything is set up properly.

  • If your Sky Hub includes internet calls, it needs to be set up differently from hubs that don't. Internet calls are standard with Sky Broadband Full Fibre, Ultrafast, or Gigafast packages.

  • Connect the Hub to your master phone socket or optical network terminal (ONT) for the best speed and stability. It is usually where the phone line enters your house. If you live in a flat, you may not have your own ONT, so you might have to speak to your landlord.

  • You may be entitled to compensation if your TV or internet goes down, but only if it's for a certain period.

Is Sky Broadband Down?

Is Sky Broadband down? The same major outage hit many Sky Internet customers on May 15, 2025. Sky Broadband is down, leaving many households across the nation without internet access and unable to watch television.

Customers began reporting internet connection issues around 9:20 pm on Thursday, and most complaints were that they were not receiving signals on the Sky A boxes.

There were a few complaints of connectivity issues with Sky Internet.

As the Sky broadband outage began, customers vented their frustrations on social media. Users said it keeps going to standby or green light, but the remote isn't responding, and we have been restoring the box to get a response.

One user said, "I have been rebooting the device, and it has been six reboots in the day." The MySky Apps have not worked all evening in Southport, nor has the website worked. It is incredibly frustrating because the provider received no response to the orders and queries.

They can post and update their social media pages and tell users about the issue. Still, the website or its social media platforms have no updates about why it is not working, and they are not telling what the issue is.

Is Sky Broadband down? The provider has been silent, and customers were most upset after the Sky Q box went down during the live broadcast of the Eurovision Song Contest semi-final. One user on X(Twitter) posted, "Does #sky #skytv not realise that Eurovision is on?! Another said, "Fuming! Missing parts of Eurovision due to the cutting off of @skytv."

Various other reports find that the outages peaked around 10.30 pm, when over 30,000 customers reported problems. The number of complaints fell overnight, but it began to rise again in the morning, with over 2000 customers reporting the issue by 6.30 am.

Users complained that there was no signal on their televisions and had to shut down their Sky boxes, while many also faced internet issues. Users said they could not watch television due to network problems, and some said their system completely went off and that they could do nothing about it.

Sky Internet Problems Today in the UK

The users said there had been a complete blackout on Sky at 9 pm. The viewers tried all the usual steps, including unplugging and testing the sockets, to no avail. After trying to unplug their TVs and check that their remotes had batteries, users said their Sky Q boxes would crash when powered on.

Sky has been offering discounted broadband packages, including fibre internet deals. Full fibre broadband, also known as FTTP (fibre to the premises) and FTTH (fibre to the home), delivers broadband directly into your home via the latest fibre optic cable. And finally, the top package was 900Mb/s Full Fibre Gigafast Broadband.

However, these packages rely on you having a full-fibre connection. Sky says it means the deals are only available to "55% of UK homes". All three deals are listed as being "available until 28/05/2025", which means they're set to disappear in days.

Many customers vented their frustrations on social media. One person wrote, "What's going on with Sky TV? It's crashed twice. It seems others are reporting about Sky being down."

Another asked, "What is going on once again? Sky keeps crashing. The internet is on and off. It's always on a Thursday." They added, 'Sort it out.'

One Sky user said her television was completely blacked out. Before it shut down, she was greeted with the message "Please wait while we load your programme."

The outage seemed to begin sometime after 9 pm this evening, with a spike up to 30K an hour later. Reports then fell below 20,000, but they have since grown to 30,312.

The problems are widespread around the UK, with London, Manchester, Cardiff and Glasgow the main cities affected. About 87% of reports concern problems with Sky television, 8% report a total blackout, and 5% report internet issues.

Despite widespread reports of issues, a notice on the Sky website states that there are "no known issues" affecting the TV service.

The website provides ways to check the status of service and update related information for uninterrupted service, for instance -

  • The Sky Service Checker can be used to monitor service issues, or one can check the My Sky App. Users can check Sky's social media accounts for outage announcements and updates.

  • The website's aggregate user reports can be accessed on DownDetector.

  • If you continue to have connectivity issues, change the router password. The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) compiled a list of 20 of the most common passwords, such as 1111111, 12345678, and names of your favourite football team, people, musicians, or fictional characters, which are easy to guess and should be avoided.

  • The best passwords are long and easy to remember. You can use random words together, but you must not recycle the password on another platform; if the hacker gains access to any platform, they can reach your account. You can use a password manager to keep track of passwords and save them in a browser that can store them for you.

  • If you notice a clear difference, sign in with your Sky ID and test your connection - this will help identify any issues causing your internet to go down.

Is There a Technical Issue with Sky Today?

At the peak, there were over 30,000 complaints about Sky's connectivity issues, and reports fell to slightly over 2,400. However, some users were still experiencing the outage even the next morning.

Some customers were still experiencing issues with their Sky Q boxes despite reports that the outage had been resolved. Sky issued an update on its X (formerly Twitter) account regarding the ongoing outage. Customers were advised to reboot their Sky Q boxes once again.

Many took to the internet to express their frustration after Sky released an update on the situation. Many users have complained that the issue hasn't been resolved for them and disagree with the explanation for the standby mode.

Sky has issued a response to concerned customers about the outage.

A Sky spokesperson said: "We're sorry some customers had trouble accessing Sky Q last night. The issue was quickly resolved, and service has been restored." According to the company, a technical issue has caused the Sky Q box to go into standby mode.

Users need to reset their boxes by switching them off and unplugging them from a power socket for 30 seconds.

The Sky Q should work normally and then be switched back on.

What Do You Do When Your Sky Broadband Is Down?

  • Sky has been recommending that users switch off their Sky Q box for 30 seconds and then turn it back on again. However, many customers have since contacted the Sky Help Team to say that the advice hasn't worked.

  • Other general recommendations include checking the Wi-Fi connection and possibly reconnecting, and updating the Sky Q box if there are any new service updates.

  • Some users responded to the Sky Help Team on X to voice their concerns over the outage. The team told some users to send a direct message so they could provide further advice.

  • There are some techniques you can use to improve your Wi-Fi connection and get more out of it.

  • Run a speed test to check your connection speed.

  • If these devices are kept too close to the router, they can affect the Wi-Fi. Move the router away from other devices, such as cordless phones, TVs, and monitors.

Can I Get Compensation from Sky for Broadband Outages and Other Issues?

Users may be eligible for compensation for broadband issues, including total loss of service, missed engineer appointments, and delayed broadband activation.

One could get £9.76 if there is a total loss of service (no internet at all) and it isn't fixed within two working days. Compensation will start on the third full working day. You do not receive automatic compensation if you are not facing a total loss of service, if you prevent the connection from being fixed, or if your home equipment is faulty.

One can get compensation for a missed engineering appointment due to internet outages. You can get £30.49 if your engineer doesn't show up for the visit, or if Sky changes or cancels it. The change or cancellation needs to have occurred with less than 24 hours' notice.

You don't get compensation if you don't give the engineer access to fix the issue, or if a health and safety issue prevents them from accessing it.

If your Sky broadband is not activated by midnight on the confirmed date, you could get £6.10 for each full day it is late.

You will not receive compensation if you miss the engineer appointment, your Sky Broadband & Talk order fails before the activation date is confirmed, you change or cancel the visit, or the visit is delayed.

If anyone is eligible for compensation under any circumstances, Sky estimate what you owe and adds a credit to your Sky account. It's all handled automatically, so you don't need to get in touch.

If you want to make a complaint to the Sky customer service team, you can reach them on 0333 7591 018. If your service goes down, it's worth asking for compensation even if it doesn't meet the requirements.

How Do I Check If Broadband Is Down in My Area?

  • The lights on your Sky Hub can help to check broadband connection issues, but you need to know what they mean:

  • The Red power light indicates that your Hub might be faulty. To resolve the problem, try switching it off and on again at the mains plug, then wait a few minutes while it starts back up.

  • A flashing amber light means your Hub is in recovery mode. Hold the reset button on the back of your Hub for 10 seconds until the lights on the front start to blink. Then wait for the lights to return to normal and check your broadband.

  • To get a more accurate assessment for your area, visit the Sky website, enter your phone number, and check your network connection there. It will tell you if there are any issues in your area affecting Sky's internet connection. You'll also be able to see any trending Sky broadband discussions within the Sky online community, which can help you see if there are other complaints in a specific area.

  • If your Sky broadband is down, reset the box to get it working again. Unplug the device overnight and plug it back in the morning. If it has been working for over an hour, try resetting the box.
