I.T Network & Infrastructure: 5G

Currently, some private organisations are using 5G through unlicensed spectrums. It is assumed that real-life applications based on 5G will appear around 2020. The next-generation mobile network will be based on 5G. 5G delivers the internet at a five-time higher speed. Recently, four cities in the US got 5G networks launched by an open 5G TF network built on Verizon Home.

It is the next generation Verizon 5G Home, empowered with super fast wi-fi. The company's representatives claim the innovations will attract new service investments and businesses in the cities, e.g. Sacramento, Los Angeles, Indianapolis, and Houston.

The new systems will require massive changes in hardware and installations. However, the new regulations restrict the ability of infrastructure where it requires a small cell-like device to fit into a small box to be installed on utility poles. Also, one must install fibre or a better system to get the best.

Recently, the Technology Solutions Specialist at ProLabs announced about evolving architecture to use 5G.  The new architecture is based on the transition from CPRI to eCPRI, point-to-point to point-to-multipoint, and RF to fibres.  It may involve many M2M devices. Ambroise Thirion of ProLabs announced a trial of 5G in the West Midlands in the UK this month.


Evolution of Gs

2G introduced mobile voices, 3G mobile data, 4G - IP telephony / HD videos, and 5G can provide bandwidth up to 10GB per second per device, introducing new means of communication.

5G will not only be faster than 4G; it will be 10 to 100 times faster. Whereas 4G has peak speeds of 50Mbps, 5G is expected to ascend to 20Gbps. In addition, 5G technology will reduce latency from 50ms to 1ms.

 


What major changes are needed in the IT network and infrastructure for 5G?

  • 5G is a step towards building smart cities with fast internet and improved internet security.

  • The technologies involved are CPRI- a digitalised and serial internal radio base station interface that connects the baseband units and the radio or remote radio heads through single-hop or multi-hop topologies.

  • The architecture of E-ULTRA will involve radio bearer and node BS and MIMO that allows receiving and sending of more than one data signal through the antenna to improve the data rate between the transmitter and receiver.

  • It needs a mobile cord that focuses on virtualised RAN. It integrates data centre economies and cloud agility. It will involve 5GNR, i.e. the new radio that provides beamforming and full-duplex wireless technology.

  • Network slicing is required to get virtual slices of physical networks for specific performance.


Impact on Cloud

Many network services offer 5G on top of 4G networking infrastructure. Still, technology advancement is required in the area to tap 5G, its impact on cloud, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and the Internet of Things.

Although, 5G infrastructures can provide customised networks for applications, devices, cell phones, services, IoT sensors, etc.  It can provide better internet quality, and its infrastructure will be flexible, fluid, and dynamic to suit the cloud.

It is suitable for all types of IT applications and vendors, where low latency of the spectrum will support applications with highly reliable data, which will appear near –real-time. In addition, it can provide a perfect system for security, entertainment, appliance, engineering, construction, and applications that will ease complicated communications and heavy traffic.
